DVD Review: The Encyclo-Poi-dia

The Encyclo-Poi-dia is a two hour DVD covering many "advanced moves," including several things not covered in The Scales of Poi, such as under the legs, throws, wraps, etc. They also offer some really good, simple instruction, such as "every time you learn a new move, try to figure out how to transition into it from all your other moves." On the critical side, we felt they talked too much about the "right way" to do certain things, such as insisting you need to keep your planes flat to your audience. Although flat-planes-to-audience often looks great, some of our favorite spinners are truly going 3-D. Summary: We think beginner and intermediate spinners can learn a lot from this DVD, but remember to take anything anybody tells you about poi with a grain of salt. Rules are meant to be broken! :)
