Nick Woolsey began his involvement with movement arts in high school, where he practiced springboard diving and began dance classes. After high school he studied Chen style Taijiquan intensively with master Yau-Sun Tong in Halifax, NS. A knee injury somehow led to a long period of wayward traveling, during which he maintained an on-again, off-again relationship with movement practices. When he found poi, it was what he'd been looking for all along. He applied techniques and principles from other art forms (particularly Tai Chi ) to poi, and has generally been devoting himself to what he hopes can be a significant movement art, all of which fits into a threefold vision. He is fortunate to have a loving support community. He has taught poi to hundreds of people around the world.
Nick's non-poi creative projects have included: writing and publishing Emails from (Over?) the Edge, producing a multimedia/theatre extravaganza in Vancouver's planetarium, and designing the world's first and only interactive smoothie research portal. He has professional experience acting and directing for stage, writing and producing for national radio, and freelancing for Momentum Magazine. He has also worked lots of awful, tedious grunt jobs, such as tree-planting and envelope stuffing to help him through periods of abject financial depravity. And lastly, if you decide that you want to see Nick spend more time bringing inspiration into your life, and less time doing grunt work, you can always poiticipate.
