Vancouver Poi Beginner Series: April 24 - May 10

Vancouver, BC, Canada | April 24 - May 10

Poi Beginner Series with Nick Woolsey

Nick Woolsey is finally returning to Vancouver to offer the Poi Beginner Series. This 6-class course will take you through all the fundamental moves and concepts of poi spinning! Although you will learn all the basic moves and transitions of poi, the true objective is to ensure that you grasp the fundamental principles of poi, preparing yourself for years of learning. We'll meet twice per week for the month of June.

Fire Poi Improv from Bali

This is the performance video from the Adventures in Poi DVD, featuring the music of Delhi 2 Dublin. I saw that some people had ripped it and posted it on youtube so I figured it was better to post it myself! There are reasons for that but I'll explain later. Meanwhile, enjoy the video and remember that you can join us at any of the upcoming Costa Rica retreats! The advanced retreats start Feb 5th so you still have time! :)

Flow Empowerment Retreat with Nick, Alien Jon, Banyan, Tea Faerie, and Thom Thumb: Costa Rica: March 11-17

Empowering your State of Flow!

Join us for this 1st-of-it's-kind retreat, hosted by La Esquela del Sol.

DSC01961.JPG If Playpoi and a Zen Monastery had a baby it would be this retreat. Nick Woolsey, Alien Jon, Banyan, Tea Faerie, and Thom Thumb of team Playpoi have joined forces to bring you a totally different kind of retreat. This week is fueled by a vision of something more important than poi tricks. We're aiming at tangible personal transformation and the ability to manifest the flow state at will.

Split-time Hip Reels (AKA Watermill)

In this video we look at Split-time Hip Reels, also known as Watermill. Really watermill and windmill are the same basic pattern, just done at different heights.

Nick's Favourite Stalling Pattern

Speaking of stalls, here's Nick's Favourite Stalling Pattern! Stalling patterns are a great way to learn freedom of movement!

Getting Stalls Started

Want to learn stalls? Then find a wall!

Crosspoints

A crosspoint is the point where the flight path of a poi intersects itself. Playing with crosspoints is a way to observe, understand, stabilize, and interact with the poi. 3-beat weaves when performed randomly don't look like anything from the front, but by stabilizing the crosspoints it can become a beautiful helix. Crosspoints can also be used for spotting when turning and whirling in virtually any pattern. (It is easiest to work with crosspoints if you have light emitting poi!)

Yuta's Video from Swiss Poi and Yoga!

For those coming to the EJC: Want to help us with a fun project?

For those coming to the EJC: We're teaming up with Sam of poifriends.com to offer the entire beginner series as an 18 station "golf course." Each station will teach a simple move or a small group of skills. We'll run the course for 5 days. Each day people can start where they finished the day before.

The station will run from 4-5pm each day from Monday to Thursday. We need at least 18 volunteers each day. The top priority is people who can commit to all 5 days. We would love to have two or more teachers at each station, so there is room for many more teachers than that. If we get enough volunteers we can keep the course open longer.

If you're coming to the EJC and you like teaching poi, reply to this email now! We'll be easy to find at the EJC. Just look for the sign-up sheet at the workshop schedule or visit the Feuershow.de booth.

Sam has created a discussion thread on poiandfriends.com. That will be a good place to work out some details.

More details will be posted here soon. If you want to help, contact us to let us know.
