thevenue.org
thevenue.org is one of Nick Woolsey's other sites. It offers tools, tutorials, and ideas related to helping people make art and ideas more contagious. Visit the site and plug in if you want to engage in the evolution of culture and consciousness.
homeofpoi.com
Homeofpoi.com is a major hub for all things poi, offering a wide selection of gear, photo galleries, event listings, and the most popular english poi-community forums in the universe. They are also an amazingly well-run company, a great group of people, and if you click through to them and buy something, we get a percentage of sales! You can also use referral code "sdecafingdengbmmqu" whenever you shop from them. We realize that it´s hard to pronounce "sdecafingdengbmmqu."
We particularly recommend Colecord (the ultimate poi string!),Fluffy Practice Poi as a great beginner set, Rainbow Strobe LED Poi (if you can´t afford flowtoys), Drew´s incredible Contact Juggling Book (we know, it´s not about poi but it will make you better at all forms of manipulation), the cathedral oval-link fire-poi for fire spinning (upgrade to Mega Heads if you want big fire), and of course the Poi Pendants! There are too many products to list, actually, so just go browse around.
flowtoys.com
flowtoys.com: Sean and Prisna at flowtoys are wonderful people and good friends friends of mine. They are kinetic toy enthusiasts and their flowlights are currently my favorite LED toys available. Also, if you click through playpoi and buy something, I get a percentage! To top it off they are selling and wholesaling our DVDs :)
The flowlights were designed from scratch by Sean and Prisna and co. This took a lot of vision, time, money, and love. I'm quite inspired that people from my own circle of friends are doing this kind of production, and I am hoping that I can help rally the community behind them (which will be easy as long as they keep making the best toys.)
domorepoi.com
domorepoi.com offers a shwack of online tutorials
feuershow.de
Feuershow.de is a German gear shop run by the wonderful Sam and friends. We are very impressed by a few of their products, such as Lycopodium Powder, which is actually the pollen from a flower, Dragon's Tongues, which let you do safe fire-breathing with the Lycopodium, Jelly-Fix Powder, for safe fire sculpture, High Quality Wick-Tape, the Ball-Bearing Swivels that I rave about, their Amazing Pyrofluid and Fire-Toy Fluid (which can be shipped abroad), and the rubber ducks.
Spherculism
spherculism.net is the brainchild of the gifted and loveable Matt Terry, who uses it to foster community, related to poi and other "sphercular" things. At playpoi, we think it&undefined;s a very, very good name for a website, as spherculism can mean so many things. We also like Matt&undefined;s dreadlocks, and nobody else really wibbles.
Oh, and Spherculism has a following of poiple who are very dedicated to getting very fancy with poi.
yogayak.com
yogayak.com: The best way to learn yoga on the internet. Jen and Mitchel, the founders of Yogayak, filmed some of their yoga lessons in the Vancouver Poi Studio. They were a huge help with the filming of "The Scales of Poi" and a couple of our inspirational videos.
temple of poi
Templeofpoi.com: Glittergirl (a true poi super-hero) may well be the world's strongest force pushing poi into the public awareness in North America. She also played a big role in Nick Woolsey's teaching career, and has given us lots of inspiration for developing good poi lessons whilst not starving. The Temple of Poi offers poi lessons in San Fransisco on most weeknights.
the poi pixies
poipixies.com: Natasha Bird and the Poi Pixies, grooving it up in Victoria, BC, with their poi studio and performance troupe.
Trickconepts.com
Trickconcepts.com is a very innovative company in California making much more than just poi and fire gear. Check them out if you're into conceptual art! :)
Also, they gave me a code: poi321. If you use it when you shop from them playpoi gets 10%!!!
luxotica.com
Luxotica.com: We've got a good thing going with Luxotica. Buy gear from their store, tell them we sent you, and they'll give us big hugs, plus they'll help with our website hosting.
Lost In Transition
My little brother ben is one of the smartest people I know. He's currently doing his masters in criminology at Simon Fraser University, but I bet he's digested more books than most PHD students. Lost In Transition is where he posts information and analysis of topics related to law, the internet, community development, and other things worth thinking about.
poicommunity.com
Poicommunity.com is the wonderful community site run by the amazing Yuta. It offers discussion forums as well as online lessons. Yuta has put a lot of energy into the poi community in Japan, purely from his big-hearted love of poi and people. Check it out.
Salza.se
Salza.se is run by very sweet Swedish people who love poi and fire and parties. They make the amazing "Isis Heads" which I personally use for my fire poi. Lots of flame for the weight. They support all the poi and fire events in Sweden and show up to make sure everybody has a good time at other events like the EJC :)
poiforyou.com
poiforyou.com is a German supplier of fire gear and glowstick/LED spinning and juggling props. They also have cool t-shirts.
