Clips from Cortona Fire Show
Some clips from a fire show some good friends and I put together last summer. Wish me luck getting more performance opportunities! :)
The Mighty Banyan
The Mighty Banyan is one of our favorite fire performers (and yoga teachers) ever. This is him performing with double staffs in Thailand and India. To contact him about performances and yoga classes, email templeroots at gmail dot com.
Nick and Yuta Fire Video #2: Poi Story
Yay! This is the second Nick+Yuta video, and the "Directors Cut" of our COL2007 entry (meaning much more fire spinning footage). A big thanks to Yuta for editing this one, and to Dan, Gordon, MK, Claus, Michie, and Isa for all the help. You guys rock!
Poi Video: More Fun with Flowtoys
Several people requested more performance videos, so here is some of my favorite footage from our flowtoys shoot in Bali. Shows how fun it can be to bend your planes sometimes.
I am slowly working towards some epic new videos, with special friends, but for that you'll have to wait while I finish a few other things from the big list ;)
And remember, you can go buy some flowtoys if you like what you see!
Nick... Strips for Money!
Yes... this is the video of me stripping for money (Watch as .mov | Watch on youtube). I was waiting to have a few more poiticipation goodies ready (poi hipsacks, posters, etc), but it was a very special friend's birthday yesterday so I'm releasing it now.
The stripping makes a good metaphor. I'm stepping out of all my fears lately (and I'm not the only one). We bring our dreams to life by choosing to. Thus I'm swinging the credit cards around fast an furious, and we'll be offering a lot of yummy new content starting early June. Please stay tuned.
I'm hoping you'll take the time to pay attention to the poiticipation ideas, and to have faith in me that I'm offering a two-way relationship. I don't think artists have to live in poverty to maintain their integrity. It's time to blaze a new artist/community relationship, and part of that happens here, and I would love you to be part of it.
If things go well there will be more nudity, I promise.
Nick
Dancing with Flowtoys LED Poi
Hey, check it out, we finished our flowtoys.com: video. These are my favorite LED poi, produced by the amazing Sean and Prisna. (Yes, this is what we are using in most of those photos). This is exciting as they've signed me up as an affiliate member, so if you click through and buy something, I get a percentage, which puts me all the closer to getting my own video camera! Oh, and they are selling and wholesaling our DVDs in North America so it is overall very exciting :)
Giant´s Causeway
In 2006, Clare Palmer (aka firepoise) brought a few special people together to film fire at the Giant´s Causeway. It is a very special place and it made for a very special video. A big hug and kiss for Clare!
The Beautiful thing about Ashes
I put this together spontaneously after watching a video of myself fire spinning in Thailand. It's a bit... personal. It's dedicated to anybody who ever goes through depression or low self-esteem. I've been through my share, and I know it can help to know you're not alone, so this is me saying that you most definitely have permission to love yourself, and there is a way back to the happy juices, and no, it has nothing to do with other people thinking you're good at fire spinning :)
(Music by MIA.)
Poi Showdown: Nick VS Yuta
We shot this video in Tokyo in March 2006. After one full year it's finally ready to go live!
The Plot: Crusty poi master Nick tracks down his nemesis, hotshot poi artist Yuta, to challenge him to a dual for the sake of honor. Includes unexpected plot twists and dubbing.
When Circles Dream
Combining the ethereal music of Tarun Nayar with video and photos of LED poi and fire dancing. This is a great video to share with your non-spinning friends and family!
Bob and Hamen's Excellent Poi Documentary
In the spring of 2005, filmmaker Bob Narayan and his brother came to the Poi Studio to shoot a short documentary. He did a most excellent job. It features beautiful inodoor spinning with light and an interview with Nick Woolsey about poi and the Playpoi vision.
Dervishly Yers
This is our most popular video yet, the one that has been downloaded by at least 30,000 people.
Sadly, Nick lost all the high res footage and files during one of his periods of homelessness and abject poverty. He really does think he can one day make a video that touches you even more.
Unexpected Interview
Fimed by Camilla Griggers in February, 2005. Nick was unsure on whether to release it or not, as he's a bit shy. It really was a very unexpected interview, and was shot very early in the morning, just after a weekend of poi workshops, and just before Nick had to catch his plane. He doesn't always look like this.
Atlantis on Fire
Filmed By Michael MacDonald and edited by Collective Apoplexy. This Footage is from an improvised fire performance at a Beats Without Borders event in Vancouver, BC, at a well known club called Atlantis (hence the name).
The Poi Studio
This was filmed by Camilla Griggers in December, 2004. It includes some great Poi Studio footage and some LED Poi spinning, plus an explanation of the vision that brought the studio in to being. The Vancouver Poi Studio is no more, but it lives on in our hearts.
