Flowtoys

Sean and Prisna at flowtoys.com are good friends of mine. Their flowlights are my favorite LED toys in the universe, and I hope to help rally the community behind them (which will be easy as long as they keep making the best toys.)

The flowlights are bright, durable, and come programmed with many modes. They take single rechargeable AAA batteries. They are sold with various shells, so you can have poi, wands, staffs, and other toys, all with one set of lights. They also make great handles!

Crystalpoi make a particularly awesome pair of rechargeable LED poi. Make sure you get the "flow mass" covers to add a little weight. Both flowlights and crystal cases are now available on homeofpoi.com and flowtoys. Remember to use "playpoi" as your referral code!

Woot! Get Your Playpoi T-Shirt Now!

Picture 2.pngYay! The Playpoi T-Shirts are finished and available at the SPREADSHIRT PLAYPOI SHOP. A huge thanks to Alex for making this happen.

Note: The shirts are from Spreadshirt, our favorite print-on-demand shop. They fill the order, not us. This means you get to choose from a wide variety of styles and colors, and we don't have to get bogged down in filling orders or paying up front. It's more expensive than wholesale printing so the current prices are as cheap as we can go. It's well worth it! Feel free to explore spreadshirt and send us any special requests.

Fortunately, much of the clothes we wear and more is available through luxotica.com and buddhaful.com. Please make sure to use PLAYPOI as your referral/promotion code. That way we get a small referral percentage, which helps us make more poi resources for you :)

Happy dancing!

Exactly what I've been wanting a shop to come out with. Note that you can buy the swivels alone through homeofpoi.com and feuershow.de, and Pro-Series handles only through HoP. Colored Flame Dyes

Homeofpoi has found a great supplier for Colored Flames: Tribal Neon Fire Dyes. I used the green flame with a fire puppet at the Halifax Busker Festival, and the effect was fantastic. Homeofpoi looked far and wide before choosing Tribal Neon. The colors are very strong.

If you use them, make sure to read the directions carefully. I used it with "Methyl Hydrate," which is basically pure methanol, with great success. The names of these products change in different regions, so you might need to do some homework to find the right thing. Enjoy!

Poi Pendants

The new poi pendants are finished and available on homeofpoi.com! Now you can get them black-in-white or white-in-black.

This is one of my cherished projects from Bali. They are carved out of bone and horn by a sweet family of Balinese artists I met in Ubud (the cultural hub of Bali). The design ideas came via a series of visions and a lot of sketching, and were influenced by the people and events and art I encountered in Bali. The symbols have been a work in progress ever since Alex and I designed the first DVD. We'll add more symbols as the ideas evolve...

One-piece cone-poi available on HoP!

Homeofpoi has launched their one-piece cone poi!

This is a great moment in poi history. The design was a collaboration between homeofpoi and myself, based loosely on a pair of sock-poi I got from Drew (of ministryofmanipulation.com). They are much like the poi I often use in my videos, but with a different (and hopefully better) method of inserting and removing the weight. They are super comfortable and pretty much tangle free. This is the kind of cone poi the world needs! So order a pair and tell me what you think. (Note: I do not recommend the cone-poi with the swivels, as I think they are too clunky.)

Oh, and I now have "playpoi" as my referral code at homeofpoi. If you use it when you buy something, I get a percentage. This is good, as it will help me justify spending more time making poi videos! :)

How to Make Meteors

A little video on making a poi-style meteor (traditional meteors use much thicker ropes, but they aren't as fun for tangles and spiral wraps). I like using Colecord but you can use any cord that feels good. Some people like thin climbing rope, which you can get at any outdoor store. Good luck with this one. It requires some patience at the beginning but you'll love it once you get past the first hurdles.

How to Make and Use Colecord-Poi

I have loved Colecord ever since Cole gave me a pair of poi in 2006. They were immediately my favorite practice poi because colecord is a) very comfortable, b) very strong, and c) slightly springy.

I decided then that the whole world should have access to Colecord! In spring 2007 I began corresponding with Homeofpoi.com about gear design. I sent them samples of colecord and they found the manufacturer in Taiwan, meaning you can buy Colecord at homeofpoi.com ! Yayness! They also supply the ball-bearing fishing swivels that I love so much :)

This video will tell you everything you need to know about making poi with colecord:
