Illzao and Banyan taking Circus and Smiles to Sumatra

My friends Illzao and Banyan just made a trip to Sumatra, to perform a circus show for children, disabled groups, and retirement communities. Not much poi but lots of love and smiles and inspiration!

Swiss Retreat 2010 Vlog

We've wrapped up our third annual Swiss Poi Retreat at the Balmeggberg! It was great fun -- spinning, sauna, and yummy organic food.

Check out our Swiss Poi Retreats album on Flickr for some beautiful photos, and check out our vlog from a day of training!

Singapore Shenanigans

Nick, G, and Pali trekked to Singapore for a super secret project with the illustrious Karen. See the silliness, and get a behind-the-scenes look at what we've got in store.

The Great Poi Mapping Adventure Vlog #2.5: Big Rain!

Setting up Poi Headquarters in a lush tropical country can be interesting...

The next video in this series got promoted to inspiration status!  Find it in the inspiration section:  100% More Poi.

The Great Bali Poi Mapping Adventure #2: Poop Coffee! (and 100% more Ducks)

This is our second blog as we continue to map poi and go on adventures in Bali (now with 100% more ducks)!

Introducing: the Great Bali Poi Mapping Adventure!

Nick, G, and Pali have fixed up an old house in the rice fields of Bali to serve as poi headquarters while we bring you a bunch of new poi videos and community resources.

This is our first vlog of what we're calling "The Great Bali Poi Mapping Adventure"!

Ode to Poi Community

One of the most exciting and beautiful things about poi is the community that surrounds it. I know, it sounds cheesy, but it's entirely true: everywhere i go, I encounter amazing people who play with poi. And the better they are at poi, the better people they are.

Does poi prowess enhance personhood prowess? Is that possible? I'm beginning to suspect so. Investing time in playing and learning has cool side effects, and I think that's pretty awesome.

Finding Tami's Neverland

Post-retreat Gili adventure!

After the March retreats, we decided it was time for some much-needed r&r, and we found the perfect post- poi retreat headquarters:  Tami's Neverland!

Gili Island Adventures

While we're in Bali, we like to hop over to the nearby Gili Islands now and then.  Collected here are some of those adventures, from 2009 and 2010, featuring many of our wonderful poi friends!

Beautiful Bali

Nick's spent a few months a year in Bali since first going in 2007.  Playpoi artists often convenes there to work on projects and host retreats.  Included here are some of our adventures, some of the people we've met, and lots of beauty.

Alien Jon in the Airport

How do poi spinners entertain themselves in airports?  By spinning poi?  Maybe... :-)

A spontaneous video of Alien Jon spinning in an airport, and Nick commenting on why you might want to check out his workshops.

The Future of Poi?

IMG_3420.JPGI write from a plane to Toronto, exhausted, inspired, and happy. Alien Jon (contender for world's greatest poi artist), Burning Dan and Teafaerie from flowtemple.org, and Baz just visited me in Costa Rica for 2 weeks. It was great. They were helper elves for the last Costa Rica poi retreat, and then we spent a week shooting photos and videos, playing poi everywhere, and sharing our visions of the future of poi and the flow arts.

Costa Rica Adventure

Many of the Playpoi team and friends gathered in Costa Rica in early 2009 for projects and retreats. Included here are photos of our adventures.
